About Me

Hi, my name is Lillie, and welcome to Literary Ligase, previously known as Little Lillie Reads!

For as long as I can remember, I have been an avid reader. You'd either catch me sneaking extra quarters into the scholastic book fairs to buy another book or find me lost in the shelves of my local library. With the number of stories I consumed, I always had recommendations to make and a constant stream of opinions I wanted to voice.

Throughout the years, I maintained my love for literature and was finally able to find a way to share my passion for reading. I started this blog when I was just a junior in high school. Since then, I’ve attended the University of Florida, realized my professional goals, and earned my Bachelor of Science in Microbiology and Cell Science, graduating summa cum laude in December 2019.

I am now studying at Northwestern University and earning my Masters in Genetic Counseling — which is where my new blog name comes in!

ligase (n). an enzyme that can connect two strands of DNA by forming a bond between the phosphate group of one strand and the deoxyribose group on another

I studied genetics for the first time my freshman year of college in Biology I. After realizing my profound interest in the topic, I switched majors from biology to microbiology to ensure I would study genetics more in depth later on in my undergraduate career. Two years later, I discovered genetic counseling and I have been working towards this career ever since!

On Literary Ligase, I want to document my journey to becoming a genetic counselor and continue to review books and connect people (like the enzyme ligase *wink wink*) to their next read! I hope you all can gain some knowledge from my posts, learn more about the genetic counseling field, and find a little happiness in these bookish happenings. Thanks for stopping by and I invite you to stick around if you’ve got the time!
