Synopsis: Celaena Sardothien has survived deadly contests and shattering heartbreak - but at an unspeakable cost. Now she must travel to a new land to confront her darkest truth ... a truth about her heritage that could change her life - and her future - forever.

Meanwhile, brutal and monstrous forces are gathering on the horizon, intent on enslaving her world. To defeat them, Celaena must find the strength to not only fight her inner demons, but to battle the evil that is about to be unleashed.

After reading a lot of different reviews and hearing a variety of thoughts on Heir of Fire, I finally made it my mission to finish what I started a couple months back. Sarah J. Maas is phenomenal at keeping you intrigued and invested in her books. Though this one took a while to really pick up, once it did, it was full throttle. The writing continues to be impeccable and I think SJM's writing even improved a bit in this book. I love the Throne of Glass world so much and honestly could not even begin to commend the fantastic world building that goes on throughout the series.

Since this is the third book in the series I'm not going to go into too much detail. If you have not read this book yet, I can assure you Celaena is still badass and an amazing female heroine. There were new characters introduced in this book, a lot of whom were up to discussion (especially that one in particular). They added a different feel to this universe which allowed this world to expand on a different level. I thought they pushed the story onwards and upwards to a great climax. With SJM's books you can always expect hunky boys to be included, so my expectations did not fall short when we were introduced to a new, brooding hunk. I'm not gonna say much because if you haven't already been spoiled (I know I was), then I'm not going to be the one to spoil anything for you!

I personally thought this was an incredible addition to the series, despite the amount of controversial attention this book received. Following the events of Crown of Midnight, this definitely satisfied my hunger for another plot slayer. I am currently reading Queen of Shadows and will have much more to say on that book, because everything is going crazy right now. This was just a tiny review to let you all know that if you're reluctant to continuing on this series, this is the sign for you to keep going.

"she was the heir of ash and fire, and she would bow to no one"

  2. I totally agree with you - I found the first half to be really slow, but I'm glad I kept going, because I loved the ending! It really picked up, and Celaena was so badass at the end. This was probably my favourite book of the series, even if it was quite slow to start. I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Fabulous review, Lillie. Thanks for sharing your thoughts! ☺
